About Suthanlites

Suthanlites Kennels is located in the sub tropical zone of eastern Australia in Brisbane in the south eastern corner of the state of Queensland. The advertising blurbs for tourism say “Queensland, beautiful one day and perfect the next.” Well, that pretty well sums it up - long balmy days of sunshine and tropical gardens.

Now that is not always the ideal climate one envisages of the environment for a Siberian Husky. However, this is an endurance dog and they handle the heat better than most breeds and certainly better than us!

As busy people running multitudes of businesses, Jon and I (Cheryl LeCourt), always find the time to go to yet another dog show. This is our time out and de-stress formula. Some people play golf, some fish - we play with our dogs and run away to dog shows!  Heading down the open highway in the Winnebago and dog trailer behind, it is exhilarating to explore new places, sleep away from home and eat under the stars, all with good company and our wonderful dogs.

Originally just hairdressers, we became multiple tasking people turning hobbies into businesses which now take us all over the world and networking with people we could never have hoped to meet previously. Our businesses are not only hairdressing salons and a hairdressing Academy, we also manufacture hair care products and for the last few years, Plush Puppy Grooming Products for show dogs.

There is more than a hint of the perfectionist in us both. Finding each other and marrying almost 20 years ago as a second chance in life, was really the meeting of two minds. We are both obsessive about getting things right as is Simon Briggs our wonderful handler. Nothing is too much work or trouble if it has to be done and the quicker the better!

We have been blessed to find great dogs and breed some wonderful progeny over the years. It is hard not to mention them all as there have been so many and hopefully many more to come. Nontheless, the ones who took us on the serendipity road and marked the highway with their milestones are Alexander, Cowboy, Wyatt, Casper, Teava, Halley, Micah and now Freddie.

Our beautiful dogs have managed to win approx 300 Best in Show awards over the years with Freddie the all time great as # 1 Australian All Breeds 2005, 2006 and  2007. Freddie and the remarkable handler, Simon Briggs are a pair to behold and Freddie is the greatest winner BIS winner worldwide for Siberian Husky's and with 148 BIS to his credit now and making occasional showring appearance, this boy is a living legend.

As breeders we breed for love. We breed for the betterment of the breed. We breed only when we need something for ourselves. We do not sell breeding dogs for pets- all pet homed dogs are sold de-sexed prior to leaving us.

We have gained insight into not only Siberians and Eurasiers but many other engaging breeds and have learned that a good example of any breed is hard to go past. To strive for the true essence and efficient workability of all breeds is a quest for the passionate and compassionate. We hope we are both of those and are able to continue the energy and drive to maintain the ideals and examples of those who came before us.

The dogs of Suthanlites are campaigned extensively throughout Australia. We have an exciting young team of youngsters ready to start their show careers - keep an eye out for our Siberians, prepared and handled by Simon Briggs.

In 2007 we became the first representatives for Australia at the Eukanuba World Challenge - Freddie and Simon did us proud and during our quick trek to the USA for the event, Freddie also won BIS All Breeds. - what an amazing trip and another great win for this amazing boy - we couldn't be more proud. 

Late 2007 we took charge of Jackpot, the Toy Poodle from Japan.  His short stay in Australia saw him become the BIGGEST WINNING TOY POODLE OF ALL TIME with 35 BIS awards to his credit and 5 of those were ROYAL BIS WINS.  In 2008 we were proud to represent Australia again at the Eukanuba World Challenge - this time with Jackpot and Freddie and what an exciting time - they made the final 12.  We sadly bid farewell to Jackpot during this trip and he returned home to his breeder in Japan.

The future is looking great here at Suthanlites - it was with sadness that we bid Simon Briggs farewell as he took on a new adventure in Canada - but this also brought Jarrod Tyler to Suthanlites and he is campaigning our Brisbane show team and managing the many Suthanlites around Australia.

in 2010 we had a quiet year here, with some personal mountains to be conquered and Jon and I now limit our dog shows but are still living and breathing Siberians - something that is in our blood.

Our Freddie and now our Sparkle have joined Simon in Canada and this has enabled us to continue to showcase our Siberians across the world.

We have some exciting youngsters to take up our time this year, and many Champions around the country (and the world) being campaigned and continuously in the winners circle - all prepared and presented in our Plush Puppy range and keeping the Suthanlites flag flying high.
